The Outer Hebrides Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP) celebrated International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Day on 9th September 2014.

The day started with the ADP’s Substance Misuse Development Officers discussing FASD and the need to be alcohol-free during pregnancy with the 5th year girls at The Nicolson Institute.

The 5th years also supported the internationally recognised ‘Pregnant Pause’, which involves everyone standing as still as statues for 9 minutes at 9.09am on the 9th day of the 9th month (September 9th), representing the 9 months of an alcohol-free pregnancy.

Following this, the ADP staffed an FASD awareness stall in Tesco Stornoway, while the Level 4 Hair and Beauty students at the Lews Castle College provided an FASD awareness stall in the college Reception area for their fellow students.
