On behalf of the NHS WI Public Health & Health Strategy Division, staff from Health Promotion participated at the Annual Public Health Conference, held in Aviemore, on 6th and 7th November.
Staff were invited to present a range of posters on a specific piece of work they had carried out. The poster presentations selected for presenting comprised:
- ‘I Will Survive’ – Implementing Detect Cancer Early (DCE) in a Remote and Rural Environment.
- ‘The Final Countdown’ – Implementation of a Smoke-free premises policy across NHS Western Isles.
- ‘Islands In The Stream’ – Development of geographic profiles to demonstrate health inequalities in the Western Isles.
- ‘Baby I Love You’ – Partnership Working in Maternal and Infant Nutrition in the Western Isles.
A presentation was also provided by Emelin Collier, Head of Planning & Development, entitled, ‘The Remodem Project’ – Support for People with Dementia and their Carers living in Remote and Rural Areas.
A total of 62 posters from Boards across Scotland were displayed in the main arena of the Conference centre where delegates could view and discuss them with their authors during breaks.
Delegates were given the opportunity to vote for the best poster in terms of visual impact, content and contribution in meeting the challenges for Public Health over the next 20 years, and the award for the greatest potential impact on remote and/or rural health was awarded to Fiona Hall, ADP Substance Misuse Information Officer, for her poster ‘Islands In The Stream’.
