As part of No Smoking Day 2015 (Wednesday 11th March), Smokefree Hebrides were pleased to promote the ‘Proud to be a Quitter’ campaign, using local men – Sandwick resident Angus, and Aignish resident Murdo – who both successfully quit through the local Smokefree Hebrides service.

Angus said, “Now, when I’m fishing, my friends have to tell me, ‘Slow Down!’. Smokefree Hebrides worked wonders for me and I’m so chuffed!”. (Read Angus’ full interview in EVENTS March issue).

Murdo said, “What better inspiration to ‘quit’ than the arrival of my new grandson, Magnus. I’d smoked for 41 years, but I want to be around for a long time as part of Magnus’ future. I’m already much happier and healthier. Find your inspiration and you too can kick the habit”.

No Smoking Day presents quitting as something to be proud of, and ‘Quitters’ as people to be admired. We recognise that smokers each have their own reasons for wanting to quit. We therefore used ex-smokers and their key motivations for quitting. Their stories give the campaign broad appeal, making it relevant to all smokers.

Over 10 million people in the UK still smoke, and around 100,000 die every year from smoking-related causes. That’s 100,000 deaths too many.

We are calling upon your support to help us reach more smokers than ever, encouraging them to stub out their last cigarette for good today.
