Home and Away

A recent event, which was jointly run by the Learning Shop and the Shared Roots Project, was held in the Stornoway Town Hall and attracted a staggering number of people.

The ‘Celebration of Culture and Learning’ evening was based around the Learning Shop’s annual acreditation ceremony, which acknowledges the achievements of their students. A joint event last year proved so popular that it was decided to use a similar format for this year’s event.Cllr Archie Campbell opened the evening and congratulated all present for their achievements and determination and commented on the wonderful turnout, which reflected all the hard work and commitment of those involved. A number of students and volunteers read out their personal stories relating to the theme of ‘home and away’and took us on their personal and sometimes, emotional journeys.

The Stornoway Jazz Band kept the audience entertained while the buffet was provided by the Thai Café, Banghla Spice and CNES. Over a dozen different cultures were represented with many dressed in colourful traditional costume.  For further information please contact Mary MacLean, Fas Fallain Manager, tel. (01851) 762017.
