Double Launch for Older People’s Week

opp launch

Older people in the Western Isles can now take advantage of their new ‘Older People Western Isles’ website and accident prevention project, both launched by the Western Isles Older People’s Partnership on Monday, October 1.

Aimed at those aged over 55, the ‘Gabhaibh gréim air a’ gheamhradh’ (Get a grip this winter) project supports older people to venture out during icy winter conditions by offering free ice grips that are fitted to outdoor shoes.  Those attending the launch took advantage of trying on the ice grips being demonstrated and commented on how easy the grips were to use and place over their footwear. The ice grips will be distributed via local older people groups and for further information please contact the Volunteer Centre Western Isles 01851 700366.

The Older People Western Isles website, developed in partnership with NHS Western Isles’ Health Promotion Department, is also targeted at those aged over 55, and can be accessed at: www.olderpeoplewi.scot.nhs.uk

A further three events in the Uists were also held to mark Older People’s Week, and with over 30 people attending, the events were felt to be a great success, with those attending enjoying viewing the new website. For further information please contact Tina Burgess, Senior Health Promotion Officer.
