Intergenerational Work – Cothrom Og Nursery and Sacred Heart Care Home

Health Promotion have been working in partnership with Cothrom Og Nursery, to weekly attend the Sacred Heart Care Home, both based on the Isle of South Uist, to:

  • build community connections between generations
  • encourage community involvement and strengthen communities
  • enable joint learning and the exchange of experience, skills and knowledge between older and younger people
  • promote social inclusion, equality and mutual respect
  • have fun and to foster a real understanding between people of different ages.

In order to achieve this staff utilise old stories, specifically told in South Uist, which included crofting, animals and fairies.

The partnership will culminate in a book being developed to showcase the creative sessions held, which will be launched on 29th April, giving the residents and the children’s family the opportunity to see what they have achieved.

The book has been developed with the help of the local community and will be well publicised and available for all to view.
