International Women’s Day Events

Two events were held to celebrate International Women’s Day 2018.

The first event was for older women and titled ‘celebrating the cailleach’. This event was hosted by a group of local older women who wanted to bring women over the age of 60 together to look at health and wellbeing issues affecting them.  The event was well attended and many issues of interest were discussed. These included internet & technology, bereavement, changing relationships, death & dying, mental health, emotional wellbeing and physical activities for the older woman.  Information was also gathered from the women on how best to survive the menopause so that this can be shared with other local women.

The second event held on International Women’s Day was an intergenerational event for all women. Women present from 8 decades (80 years old – teens) on how life was for them growing up and reflecting on the changes for women over the years.  Young women from the local secondary school presented what life was like for a young woman today and the opportunities and challenges faced by their generation.  After some interesting presentations the day was completed by 2 workshops to introduce women to mindfulness and music playlists as positive approaches to maintaining health and wellbeing.
