Success for walkers in NHS Western Isles’ spring ‘Walk on Hebrides’ step count challenge!

This week saw the end of NHS Western Isles’ six week step count challenge ‘Walk on Hebrides’.

Three hundred and thirty three people across the Outer Hebrides set-off on 1st May 2018 on a step count challenge aiming to walk 172 miles as an individual or in a team of two.

Walkers followed a virtual route of the Outer Hebrides using the Big Team Challenge app and web system which started on Barra and ended at the Port of Ness.

During this time an amazing 51,000 miles were walked collectively – which is over 102 million steps and more than twice the circumference of Earth! What an amazing achievement!

If you didn’t take part in the Walk on Hebrides step count challenge or you did and you’re looking for another challenge – why not choose a virtual walking route at World Walking. Visit: https://worldwalking.org/

The Health Promotion department will now evaluate the challenge and issue a summary report on this in due course.
