Western Isles Hospital ‘Daily Mile’ walk hits 100!

Recently, Laura Macleod, NHS Western Isles Dietetics Assistant, led the 100th lunchtime ‘Daily Mile’ walk for NHSWI staff from Western Isles Hospital; with participants clocking up 100 miles of walking!

The lunchtime ‘Daily Mile’ walkers have left from the hospital most weekdays since mid-January and receive dietary advice as they walk, in an informal space if they wish. Dedicated walkers have walked through all weather conditions; only cancelling when severe weather warnings were issued.

The aim of the ‘Daily Mile’ is to fit 15 minutes of physical activity into daily life; feeling the benefits that come with regular exercise. Regular physical activity and fresh air can have a positive influence on mental, physical and social health and wellbeing.

All NHSWI staff able to are welcome to join Laura on the ‘Daily Mile’ from the Western Isles Hospital. The walk leaves from reception at 12.45pm, Monday to Friday. If a walk is not going ahead an announcement will be issued on the staff intranet.
