Gala Evening and Introductions at Cearns

Health Promotion staff held a Gala evening on 7th September in the Cearns to introduce workers to the community.

The event, which attracted over 120 residents,  consisted of a  BBQ, bouncy castles, popcorn machine with tea/coffee/juice and home baking served in the local Tigh Ceilidh.  Face and nail painting, plus henna tattoos were also offered and all activities were free to the community.

Residents were also encouraged, as part of an ongoing consultation process, to contribute to a suggestions board stating what they would like to see and identifying ways to improve the area.  Some of the suggestions included:

  • Regular youth club
  • Exercise classes
  • Senior citizens group
  • Mini-allotment scheme
  • Gymnastic classes for children
  • Parent and baby drop-in
  • Outreach surgeries: CAB, TIG, Smoking Cessation
  • Transported walks

The event was provided financial support from local area councillors, with contributions by local businesses towards the raffle.
