Be Active. Stay Safe. Be Seen

At this time of year it can be easy to call-off outdoor exercise plans and think “I’ll wait until the weather improves in spring”.  However, we live in the Outer Hebrides; we know we can have four seasons in one day in June and glorious sunshine in November, so let’s get out there – but stay safe and be seen.

NHS Western Isles’ Health Promotion department, in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Sport & Health Section and the Lewis & Harris and Uist and Barra Sports Councils, are offering walkers, runners and cyclists free hi-vis armbands to support them to stay safe and be seen.

Free hi-vis armbands are available for collection from the following locations:
– Lewis Sports Centre (from today, 18th December) *All Lewis Sports Centre stock now issued*
– Harris Sport Centre (20th December)
– Liniclate Sports Centre (21st December)
– Castlebay Sports Centre (23rd January)

Get yours while stocks last! No more than 2 packs will be issued per person.

If you are looking for a new challenge, as an individual or as a group, why not choose a virtual World Walking route at: https://worldwalking.org/ or by downloading the app.

There are walking routes all over the world to choose from, including the New Zealand North and South Islands, Croatia, Islands of the Caribbean and Florida or keep it local and go on a virtual walking tour from one Scottish castle to the next.
